PENSACOLA, Fla.,
– After dropping a 1-0
eight-inning game to West Florida on Sunday,
the North Alabama softball team rebounded to
knock off the Argonauts 7-0 in game two of
the double-header, picking up the team’s
first Gulf South Conference win in the
process.
The Lions
(10-11 overall, 1-3 GSC) got solid pitching
performances in both games. In the first
game, Megan Niesel was stuck with the loss
after throwing eight innings and scattering
three hits and allowing one unearned run.
The winning run for the Argos came in the
bottom of the eighth when a squeeze bunt by
Whitney Gay scored Melissa Chastang from
third base.
UNA got five
hits in the game, including a 2-for-3
showing from Kim Lee.
In the second
game, UNA got all seven runs in the top of
the sixth inning, sending 12 batters to the
plate. The Lions got six hits in the inning
and took advantage of two UWF errors.
Maggie Eades
went 3-for-4 in the game with an RBI.
Jennifer Sharp also went 2-for-3, while
Allie Peterson scored and drove in a run to
finish 2-for-4 at the plate. Freshman Anna
Ard (2-5) picked up the complete-game
pitching victory after throwing seven
innings and allowing just four hits with
three strikeouts.
UNA will remain
in Pensacola on Monday to play two games
against Pittsburg State. First pitch is set
for 9 a.m. CST.
