NASHVILLE, Tenn.,
– After dropping a 3-1 road decision to
NAIA’s fourth-ranked Trevecca Nazarene, the
University of North Alabama softball team
rebounded in the second game with a 3-0 win
to earn a split Tuesday afternoon. Sarah
Whitlow went 3-for-5 on the day and Andrea
Palmer had a three-run home run as the Lions
improved to 14-13 on the season.
In the first
game, the Trojans built a 3-0 lead before
UNA was able to score its first run of the
day in the top of the seventh inning. A run
in the bottom of the third and two in the
sixth put TNU on to by three before Maggie
Eades singled and later scored in the
seventh. Ally Pridmore picked up the RBI
with a single up the middle to score Eades
from third, but it would not be enough.
Sabrina Roberts
dropped to 4-3 on the year after suffering
the loss on the mound. Whitlow went 2-for-3
at the plate and accounted for two of the
Lions’ four hits.
In the second
game, Palmer provided all of the offense
with her three-run shot to left center field
in the top of the fifth inning. Whitlow was
hit by a pitch and Eades reached on an error
before Palmer came to the plate and hit her
team-high fourth homer of the season and end
Trevecca’s 40-game home winning streak.
Megan Niesel
(8-4) recorded the pitching victory after
scattering 10 hits. She allowed no walks and
recorded her fourth shutout of the year.
Lindsey Bates also went 2-for-3 at the plate
in the second contest.
UNA will return
to Gulf South Conference play this weekend
with a pair of home double-headers. The
Lions will host West Georgia Saturday
beginning at 3 p.m., then welcome West
Alabama the next day at 2 p.m.
