LIONS FALL TO FOURTH IN EAST DIVISION AFTER
1-0 LOSS
DECATUR
– Delta State’s Edie Oliver pitched seven
scoreless innings and the Lady Statesmen
scored an unearned run in the top of the
third inning to pick up a 1-0 victory over
North Alabama Thursday at the Gulf South
Conference Crossover at Decatur’s Wilson
Morgan Park.
The score
marked just the second time the Lions have
been shut out all season, resulting in the
team falling to fourth place in the East
Division with an 8-7 conference record. UNA
managed to out-hit the Lady Statesmen 8-7,
but also had two miscues, including a
throwing error on catcher Kendall Moore
which allowed DSU’s lone run to score.
Megan Niesel
(11-6) was stuck with the loss on the mound
after pitching seven innings with three
strikeouts and no walks. At the plate,
Lindsey Greene was 3-for-4 on the day, while
Sarah Whitlow was 2-for-4 from the batter’s
box.
UNA will
continue play at the crossover Friday with a
pair of games against GSC West Division foes
Henderson State (2 p.m.) and Ouachita
Baptist (4 p.m.).
