SOFTBALL TEAM STRUGGLES ON FIRST DAY OF GSC TOURNAMENT

SOUTHAVEN, Miss., – Arkansas Tech torched the Lions for a season-high 15 hits and held the UNA batters in check during a 5-0 win in the opening round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament Friday morning in Southaven, Miss. With the loss, the Lions (26-20) fall to the losers’ bracket and will face Delta State Saturday morning in an elimination game at 9:30 a.m.

In the first-round game, ATU got single runs in the bottom of the first and fifth innings and added a three-run fourth. Golden Suns’ pitcher Dana Aldrich (15-4) held UNA to five hits with 10 strikeouts while throwing 6.2 scoreless innings.

Maggie Eades was the only UNA player to record two hits on the day. She went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. Megan Niesel fell to 15-9 after taking the loss on the mound. She surrendered four runs off 10 hits in four innings for the Lions. Freshman Anna Ard pitched the final two innings, yielding one run off five hits.
