DECATUR -
The University of North Alabama softball
team rallied to win the first game, but
found itself on the other side of a comeback
in the nightcap Saturday at the UAH Charger
Chillout in Decatur. The Lions picked up a
2-1 win over Lewis before falling the
Missouri Western at Wilson Morgan Park to
claim a 4-3 record on the season.
In the first
game, the Lions got a two-run home run by
Andrea Palmer in the fourth inning to rally
for a 2-1 victory. UNA trailed 1-0 after
Lewis turned a lead-off double into a run in
the top of the third. Lindsey Bates led off
the fourth with a single before Palmer
followed up with the two-run shot to left
center.
Megan Niesel
was able to secure the win on the mound to
improve to 3-0 on the year. The junior
pitched seven innings, allowing four hits
and striking out two batters.
Against the
Griffons, UNA trailed most of the game after
MWSU scored a run in the top of the first
inning. The Lions appeared poised to rally
for another win after scoring single runs in
the bottom of the fifth and sixth stanzas.
The go-ahead run happened when Lindsey Bates
singled home Lindsey Greene, who led off the
inning with a walk.
MWSU, however,
answered in its next at-bat. After reaching
base on an error, Mandi Nocita came home
from third and a sacrifice fly by Shannon
Pivovar.
The Griffons
then got the winning run on a solo home run
by Katie Bruce.
Greene and
Bates each finished the game 2-for-3 at the
plate for the Lions.
Freshman Anna
Ard took the loss on the mound after
scattering five hits in seven innings and
allowing only one earned run. She also
picked up seven strikeouts on the day.
UNA will Truman
State and top-ranked Southern
Illinois-Edwardsville tomorrow in the final
day of the Chillout
