FLORENCE – The University of North Alabama softball team let a pair of leads slip away in two home losses to Trevecca Nazarene Tuesday. The Trojans got a grand slam to rally for a 5-4 win in the first contest, then forced extra innings in a 2-1 victory in the nightcap. With the losses, the Lions fall to 7-7 on the season. Trevecca remains perfect at 4-0 on the year.

In the first game, Trevecca only got four hits, but one of them was the slam as the Trojans posted the 5-4 victory. UNA entered the top of the fifth with a 1-0 lead, but trailed 4-1 going into the bottom of the inning. After the team drew three walks, Trevecca’s Kelsey Lantrip connected on the four-run shot to center field.

The Trojans added a run in the top of the seventh, which proved to be the game-winner after UNA mounted a rally in the bottom of the inning that fell one run short. Jennifer Sharp recorded a three-run homer to make the score 5-4, but the Lions could not push another run across the plate.

Sharp finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate with a single and a double to go along with her homer and three RBI. Emily Barnes was also 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Jennifer Sexton (4-4) took the loss on the mound. She held the Trojans to two hits heading into the fifth before giving up the three walks and home run. She finished the game with four hits, six walks and six strikeotus.

In the nightcap, UNA again lost a 1-0 lead. An RBI-single by Laurin Watts scored Kathryn Young in the bottom of the second inning.

Trevecca’s Megan Hemmingsen, however, doubled in the top of the fifth and later scored on a wild pitch. The Trojans got the go-ahead run in the top the ninth inning. A sacrifice fly by Brooke Brennan scored Caitlyn Bailey from third and UNA was unable to answer in the bottom of the inning.

Watts suffered the pitching loss after scattering seven hits and six walks over nine innings. She also recorded seven strikeouts. Offensively, four different UNA players had one hit each, including a double by Sharp in the first inning.
