CARROLLTON, Ga.,
– After dropping a 2-1 decision to No. 19
Augusta State, the University of North
Alabama softball team rebounded to post a
5-4 win over Georgia Southwestern Friday at
the West Georgia Wolves Invitational. With
the split, the Lions are 9-11 on the season
and will face Rollins and Florida Southern
on Saturday at the event.
In the first game, UNA took a 1-0 lead into
the bottom of the sixth inning before Alyssa
Pingree connected on a two-run home run to
take the lead. The Lions failed to score in
the top of the seventh to end the game.
Lauren Watts (4-5) took the loss on the
mound for UNA. The Freshman allowed two runs
off six hits with three strikeouts on the
day. Offensively, four different players had
one hit each for UNA.
Against Georgia Southwestern, the Lions took
a 5-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh
before holding on for a 5-4 win.
Jennifer Sexton got the pitching win after
striking out 10 batters on the day.
At the plate, Andrea Palmer was 3-for-4 with
three singles. Jennifer Sharp was also
2-for-2 with a solo home run in the first
inning.
