FLORENCE
– The University of North Alabama tennis
teams split a pair of home matches this week
against Division I Austin Peay, with the men
picking up a 7-2 win on Monday before the
women fell 5-4 on Wednesday.
On the men’s
side, the Lions reached the .500 mark for
the season at 7-7. Bruno Zuleta improved to
8-5 on the year with a 6-1, 2-0 victory at
No. 1 singles. His opponent, Lucas de Brito
was forced to retire due to injury. Zuleta
also teamed with Everton Silva to pick up a
win in doubles competition at the No. 1
spot. The two have a 9-3 mark on the year.
The one-point
loss by the UNA women drops the team’s
overall record to 7-6 on the season. The
Lions were able to take two of the three
doubles matches, but lost 4-of-6 in singles
competition. Yuliya Zelenskaya (No. 2) and
Courtney Coleman (No. 6) were the two UNA
singles winners.
The women’s
team will return to action on March 30 with
a neutral-court match against Presbyterian
in Jefferson City, Tenn. Both teams will be
in action the following day at Lincoln
Memorial.
