UNA MEN FALL TO DELTA STATE IN NCAA TENNIS
PENSACOLA, Fla.
- Second-seed Delta State (14-7)
swept Gulf South Conference foe North
Alabama (9-11) in their first round match up
during the NCAA Division II Regional
Tournament Thursday afternoon at Ralph
Carson complex located on the West Florida
campus. The Statesmen won all three doubles
matches and quickly won two singles matches
to advance to the second round of the
tournament.
Delta State
took a 3-0 lead by sweeping the double
action. The Statesmen's top team of David
Voravongsa and Thomas Pasquet defeated the
Lions top of pair consisting of Bruno Zuleta
and Christoffer Sodemann, 8-5. Delta State?s
team of Rafael Weigand and Mathieu Provost
completed the sweep with a 8-4 victory over
North Alabama's duo of Jorge Yunes and Adam
Loudermilk.
Playing in the
second position for Delta State Pascal
LaPlace struck the first blow in singles
action defeating North Alabama?s Zuleta in
straight sets 6-3, 6-3. The Statesmen?s
Provost finished the match with a two set,
6-0, 6-2, triumph over the Lions Sodemann.

Delta State advances to take on top-ranked
West Florida (23-3) in the second round of
the NCAA Division II National Tournament
with the winner advancing to the round of
16, which takes place in Orlando, Fla.

UNA WOMEN SWEPT BY HARDING IN NCAA TENNIS
PENSACOLA, Fla.
-- The number two-seeded Harding University
picked up a 5-0 win over the number
three-seeded University of North Alabama at
the Ralph Carlson Complex on Thursday
afternoon to earn a spot in the NCAA
Division II South Regional Women's Tennis
Tournament final. The Bisons improved their
record to 23-6, while the Lions finish their
season with a 9-11 record.
The Bisons
swept the doubles action, earning all
possible points with three 8-4 wins to take
the 3-0 lead.
Following the
doubles action, Lola Pardo dropped only one
game in the singles play, and freshman
Katherine Golik won both sets 6-2 to move
Harding University to the next round.
