HARROGATE, Tenn.,
– The University of North Alabama
tennis teams split a pair of road matches
against former Gulf South Conference foe
Lincoln Memorial over the weekend. The men’s
team picked up an 8-1 victory to climb above
the .500 mark for the season with an 8-7
record, while the UNA women lost an 8-1
decision to fall to 7-7 on the year.
On the men’s
side, the Lions’ 19th-ranked doubles team of
Bruno Zuleta and Everton Silva improved to
10-3 on the year. The duo took the match
with an 8-6 win at the No. 1 spot. UNA also
got default victories at No. 3 doubles and
No. 5 and 6 singles.
The women’s
team only traveled with five players and
came up on the short end of the 8-1
decision. Default victories were awarded to
LMU at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. The
Lady Railsplitters also picked up five wins
on the court.
The UNA doubles
team of Yuliya Zelenskaya and Arrie Moore
recorded the only win for the Lions with an
8-2 victory at the No. 2 spot. The duo
improved to 6-1 on the year at No. 2 and 7-1
overall.
Weather
conditions and scheduling conflicts caused
the cancellation of the teams’ matches
against Carson Newman on April 1. Both UNA
teams will be in action at home on Saturday,
May 7, against Freed Hardeman. Match time is
set for 1 p.m.
