FLORENCE
-- The University of North Alabama men's and
women's tennis teams have been selected to
compete in their respective 2007 NCAA
Division II South Regional Tournaments.
The UNA women's
team will be making its ninth straight
appearance, while the UNA men are making
their fourth straight post-season trip and
ninth NCAA appearance in the last 13 years.
In the women's
bracket, second seeded Harding (21-6) plays
No. 3 seed UNA (8-8) in the first match of
the regional in Pensacola, Fla., at 10:00
am.
That match will
be followed by No. 1 seed West Florida and
Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
foe Tuskegee. Harding and North Alabama
clashed in the consolation semifinal of the
GSC Tournament with the Lady Bisons posting
a 6-1 victory.
The tournaments
are set for May 3-4.
In the men's
tournament, four GSC squads will battle in
the UWF Regional starting at 10:00 am with
No. 2 seed DSU (13-6) versus No. 3 seed UNA
(8-7).
The teams clash
for the third time this season with the
Statesmen recording a 5-1 win during the
regular season followed by a 5-3 triumph in
the Quarter-Finals of the GSC Tournament.
West Florida (23-3) also meets a familiar
foe in its first match, battling East
Division rival Alabama-Huntsville (7-8) for
the second time this year and blanking the
Chargers in Pensacola, 7-0. The final match
is scheduled for 2:00 pm on Friday.
