REAKES IS EAST CO-FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
-- The University of North
Alabama had eight student-athletes selected
for All-Gulf South Conference tennis honors,
led by Pippa Reakes who was chosen East
Division Co-Freshman of the Year.
The UNA women's
tennis team had four players chosen All-GSC,
with Reakes, a freshman from Bath, England,
and Yuliya Zelenskaya, a junior from Almaty,
Kazakhstan, selected for first-team honors.
Sophomore
Mallory Waites of Birmingham, Ala., and
junior Jessica Strucher of Rome, Ga., were
second-team All-GSC picks. Waites was the
2007 GSC East Freshman of the Year and
Strucher was selected All-GSC even though
she missed the early portion of the season
while still competing on the UNA women's
basketball team.
Zelenskaya was
selected All-GSC for the third straight
season. She was chosen second-team All-GSC
in 2006 and first-team last season.
Three members
of the UNA men's tennis team were also
selected All-GSC.

Cardenas of Guayaquil, Ecuador, and Zach
Bereznicki of Victoria, Australia were all
first-team All-GSC picks.
