VALDOSTA, Ga.
– Delta State cruised to a 5-2
victory over North Alabama in the first
round of the NCAA Women’s Tennis South
Regional Thursday afternoon at the VSU
Tennis Courts.
The Statesmen
claimed victory in two of the three doubles
matches, including at the No. 3 position
where they won by default. At No. 1 doubles,
DSU’s Pascal LaPlace and Rafael Weigard
defeated Carlos Cardenas and Zac Bereznicki
8-5 while North Alabama’s Martin Siejka and
Jan Miskos won 8-5 over Kirill Pervoun and
Julien Beckensteiner at No. 2.
DSU also picked
up a win by default at No. 6 singles to take
a 3-1 advantage while claiming victory at
No. 1 and No. 5 as well. LaPlace defeated
Miskos 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 while Thiago Marion
downed Phil Collins 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5. The
Lions second point of the match came at No.
2 singles where Bereznicki defeated Pervoun
6-2, 6-2.
With the loss,
North Alabama closes its season with a 9-7
overall record.
