The University of North Alabama tennis teams climbed above the .500 mark for the season after combining to post a 5-0 record over spring break. The men’s team went 3-0 with victories over North Greenville, Erskine and Brevard to improve to 6-5 on the year, while the UNA women improved to 6-4 after knocking off North Greenville and Presbyterian.

Jan Miskos led the way for the UNA men, going 3-0 at the No. 1 spot in all three matches. Zac Bereznicki, Carlos Cardenas, Chris Sodemann and Martin Siejka also each had three wins at the 2-5 spots.

The Lions defeated North Greenville and Erskine by identical 7-2 scores before holding off Brevard 6-3. In the last match, Brevard took wins in doubles No. 1 and No. 3 to take an early lead. UNA responded by winning five straight singles matches before defaulting at No. 6.

On the women’s side, Phillipa Reakes went undefeated with two straight-sets victories. Her four 6-0 wins gives her a 7-2 record at No. 1. She also picked up a pair of wins in doubles competition.

After defeating North Greenville 8-1, the Lions pulled out a hard-fought win over head coach Al Morgan’s former school, Presbyterian. UNA took two of the three doubles matches before PC won singles matches at No. 2, 3 and 4 to tie the score at 3-3. Jessica Strucher’s 7-5, 6-1 win at the No. 6 spot clinched the victory for the Lions.

Both teams are scheduled to host West Alabama at noon on April 1, before welcoming Martin Methodist at 1 p.m. on April 11. The women’s team will host Montevallo on April 12 at 1 p.m.
