VALDOSTA, Ga.
– Valdosta State won its seventh straight
match as the Lady Blazers defeated North
Alabama 5-0 in the NCAA Women’s Tennis South
Regional at the VSU Tennis Courts Monday.
VSU opened the
match by claiming all three doubles points,
including a come-from-behind victory at No.
1. Phillipa Reakes and Jessica Strucher
jumped out to a 7-4 advantage at No. 1
before Dominique Rothlaender and Tina
Trautmann staged their comeback. The Lady
Blazer duo won the next five games to
eventually claim a 9-7 win. Things were
easier for Valdosta State at No. 2 and No. 3
as Raphaelle Durante and Karine Redon swept
Yuliya Zelenskaya and Louise Klasen 8-0
while Natali Gumbrecht and Hollie Bees
downed Mallory Waites and Arrie Moore 8-1.
Reakes jumped
out to a 2-0 lead over Rothlaender at No. 1
in singles action before being forced to
retire while Redon closed out the match with
a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Moore at No. 6.
With the loss,
UNA ends its season with a 10-6 overall
record.
