
Al Morgan is in
his second season as head tennis coach at
North Alabama. He took over the men’s and
women’s programs prior to the 2007 season
after serving one year as an assistant with
the Lions in 2006.
During is first
season at the helm of the program, Morgan
guided the men’s and women’s teams to
identical 9-11 records and a berth in the
NCAA Tournament. Each team picked up a
victory in the Gulf South Conference
Tournament before advancing to the South
regional in Pensacola, Fla.
He also
recruited Mallory Waites, a Birmingham
native who was name the GSC Freshman of the
Year in 2007.
During Morgan’s
first season, three players were selected to
the All-GSC list.
A native of
Cheltenham, England, Morgan played for
former Lion head coach Paul Maxwell at
Presbyterian College from 2001-04 and was
part of two South Atlantic Conference
championship teams. Presbyterian advanced to
the NCAA regional three consecutive seasons
and was ranked No. 17 in the nation in 2004.
Morgan was an
All-SAC selection in 2002 and was on the SAC
All-Tournament team in 2004. He compiled a
31-4 singles record at the No. 6 spot.
He is the
defending state champion in both singles and
doubles of Gloucestershire State. He
previously served as assistant women’s
tennis coach at Presbyterian in 2005 under
Bobby McKee and assistant men’s coach under
Patric Hynes.
Morgan is the
19th head tennis coach in UNA athletic
history.
