LIONS WIN SIXTH STRAIGHT, IMPROVE TO 13-5
FLORENCE, Ala., – Nilcia Oliveira had 15 kills with a
.565 hitting percentage while Ashley Hill added 21 digs to lead the
University of North Alabama volleyball team to a 3-0 win over
Southern Indiana Thursday evening at Flowers Hall.
The non-conference victory improved the Lions’ overall record to
13-5 on the year and extended the team’s current winning streak to
six straight matches.
UNA broke out to early leads in each game to take control of the
match.
Dee Ayres got things going for the Lions in the opening game,
recording four kills in the 30-23 win. Four consecutive kills by
Oliveira in the second game helped UNA build a 12-4 lead and cruise
to the 30-16 victory. In the third contest, Kasie Spencer had five
kills and sparked an 8-2 run to lead the Lions to a 30-18 win.
Megan Stout added 10 kills on the match while Laura Bellinger
recorded another double-double with 10 digs and 39 assists. As a
team, the Lions held USI to a .075 hitting percentage.
UNA will continue its five-match home stand by hosting Gulf South
Conference Eastern-Division foe West Georgia Saturday afternoon at
Flowers Hall. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
