VOLLEYBALL TEAM IMPROVES WINNING STREAK TO
NINE MATCHES, 27 GAMES
SEARCY, Ark., – The University of North Alabama
volleyball team won its ninth straight match Friday evening, and
also extended its season-long 27-game winning streak with a 3-0
sweep over Ouachita Baptist on the
campus of Harding University.
The Lions, who hit .450 as a team, got 14 kills from Nilcia Oliveira
and 31 assists from Laura Bellinger during the 30-14, 30-12, 30-21
victory. Oliveira, a junior from Joao Pessoa, Brazil went over the
.400 mark for the seventh time this season, hitting .519 for the
match and raising her season average to .318.
Danielle Palasak added 10 kills for UNA and added five service aces,
upping her season total to a team-high 33. Defensively, Ashley Hill
totaled 10 digs as the Lions limited Ouachita to a .060 hitting
percentage.
The win improves the Lions’ overall record to 16-5 and sets up a
showdown tomorrow between the top teams from the Gulf South
Conference East and West Divisions. UNA will face West
Division-leading Harding at 11 a.m. at Rhodes Field House on the HU
campus.
