WINS OVER SOUTHWEST BAPTIST, NORTHWEST
MISSOURI UP VOLLEYBALL TEAM’S RECORD TO 22-5
ARKADELPHIA, Ark., - Two more victories in the final day
of the Henderson State Lady Reddie Classic gave the University of
North Alabama volleyball team a 4-0 record at the event and
improved the squad’s overall mark to 22-5 on the year.
The Lions defeated Southwest Baptist 3-0 in the early contest before
knocking off Northwest Missouri State 3-1 in the nightcap to extend
their winning streak to 15 consecutive matches.
Against SBU, the Lions got 14 kills from Nilcia Oliveira in the
30-18, 30-17, 30-24 sweep. Megan Stout also hit .688 for the match
and got four of her 11 kills at the end of the third game to close
out the match.
Laura Bellinger had 40 assists, while Jessica Hansen rounded out the
top defensive players with 18 digs.
UNA won its first two games against Northwest Missouri State 30-15
and
30-22 before dropping the third decision 27-30 to force a game four.
The Lions saved their best for last, however, hitting .432 in the
fourth game to take the match with a 30-20 win.
Bellinger led the offensive charge on the night, getting a
season-high
65 assists. The senior from Portage, Mich., added six kills and 16
digs for the Lions.
Most of Bellinger’s assists went to Danielle Palasak, who netted 22
kills. The junior added 10 digs to complete the double-double
showing.
Oliveira added 16 kills in the match, while Stout turned in a
double-double of her own with 14 kills and 10 digs. Ayres rounded
out the top hitters in the match with 12 for the UNA.
Defensively, Hansen had 25 digs, with Sam Wilson also reaching
double figures in the category with 10.
UNA will return to Gulf South Conference play Tuesday, Oct. 17, with
a home match against in-state rival Montevallo. The match is slated
to begin at 7 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
