FLORENCE –
Officials with the Gulf South Conference have named North Alabama
sophomore Kasie Spencer the East Division Offensive Player of the
Week.
Spencer, a middle blocker from La Verkin, Utah, helped the Lions
extend their winning streak to 20 straight matches with a pair of
3-0 victories last week. She totaled 24 kills and nine blocks as UNA
knocked off West Georgia and Central Missouri to improve to 27-5 on
the season.
For the week, Spencer averaged four kills per game. Her top showing
was a 16-kill performance against the 12th-ranked UCM Jennies.
Spencer becomes the sixth different UNA player to receive the weekly
conference award this season. Setter Laura Bellinger and outside
hitters Nilcia Oliveira and Danielle Palasak each won the offensive
honor, while libero Ashley Hill and defensive specialists Jessica
Hansen have each been named the defensive player of the week.
UNA will host the upcoming GSC Tournament Friday and Saturday, Nov.
3-4.
The Lions are the top seed in the East Division and will play the
West No. 4 seed Arkansas-Monticello Friday at 7:30 p.m. in
opening-round action.
