RADECKI GETS 100TH WIN AT UNA AS LIONS KNOCK OFF ALBANY STATE, SAINT
LEO
PENSACOLA, Fla., - After a rough
start to the Argonaut Regional Crossover, the University of North
Alabama volleyball rebounded to post a pair of sweeps on the final
day, knocking off Albany State and Saint Leo to improve to 5-7 on
the season.
Playing against
the school she previously coached at, UNA head coach Stephanie
Radecki recorded her 100th win for the Lions with the 30-20, 30-11,
30-25 decision over Saint Leo. In just over three seasons, Radecki
is 100-21 at UNA.
The Lions got
off to quick starts in the first two games against Saint Leo, going
ahead 8-0 and 10-0. Danielle Palasak led the way with 18 kills for
UNA and was named to the event’s all-tournament team. Kelly Pratt
also reached double figures in kills with 10.
Defensively,
Jessica Hansen added 17 digs while Alison Jacobs turned in 36
assists. Saint Leo, also the alma mater of UNA graduate assistant
coach Robbie Beach, managed just a .036 hitting percentage as a
team.
In the early
match, the Lions picked up their first regional win with a 3-0
victory over Albany State. Palasak had 23 kills and recorded a .312
hitting percentage during the 30-16, 30-20, 30-13 win.
Hansen
continued to post solid defensive numbers with 16 digs and had five
of the team’s 15 service aces. Jacobs flirted with a triple after
getting seven kills, six digs and 46 assists while Whitney Sanders
hit.364 for the match with 12 kills.
UNA will return
to Flowers Hall next weekend by hosting a regional crossover of its
own. The Lions will play three matches in two days, beginning with a
showdown with Barry University on Sept. 14 at 7 p.m.
