LIONS FALL TO NOVA SOUTHEASTERN, DOWN HARDING
FLORENCE – After dropping the
first match of the day to Nova Southeastern, the University of North
Alabama volleyball team was able to rebound and knock of Gulf South
Conference West Division rival Harding in the night cap of the UNA
Regional Crossover Saturday evening at Flowers Hall.
The split on
the day gives the Lions a 7-8 record heading into conference play,
which begins on Sept. 18 on the road.
Against the
Bisons, three UNA players reached double digits in kills as the
Lions pulled out the 36-34, 26-30, 30-25, 30-28 victory. Danielle
Palasak (23 kills, 10 digs) and Kelly Pratt (17 kills, 13 digs) each
turned in double-doubles while freshman Beyaca Martin got a
career-high 15 kills for the match. Alison Jacobs added 55 assists.
Defensively,
five players recorded at least 10 digs and Whitney Sanders added 13
blocks for the Lions. Jacobs and Katie Haseltine joined Palasak with
10 digs, while Pratt’s 13 and Jessica Hansen’s career-high 38 led
the way.
UNA allowed
similar numbers against Harding, which had more team digs, 97-89,
and less team errors, 36-37. Manuela Nesheva turned in a match-high
26 kills for the Bisons.
After winning
the first game against Nova Southeastern 30-22, the Lions could do
little on offense or defense against the Sharks. NSU rallied to win
three straight and post a 22-30, 30-21, 30-24, 30-19 victory.
The Lions hit
just .090 has a team and had 17 service errors in the match.
Palasak’s 21
kills and Hansen’s 23 digs led the way for UNA while Jacobs had 35
assists.
UNA will open
conference play at West Alabama on Tuesday. First serve is set for 7
p.m. in Livingston.
