LIONS FALL TO NOVA SOUTHEASTERN, DOWN HARDING

FLORENCE – After dropping the first match of the day to Nova Southeastern, the University of North Alabama volleyball team was able to rebound and knock of Gulf South Conference West Division rival Harding in the night cap of the UNA Regional Crossover Saturday evening at Flowers Hall.

The split on the day gives the Lions a 7-8 record heading into conference play, which begins on Sept. 18 on the road.

Against the Bisons, three UNA players reached double digits in kills as the Lions pulled out the 36-34, 26-30, 30-25, 30-28 victory. Danielle Palasak (23 kills, 10 digs) and Kelly Pratt (17 kills, 13 digs) each turned in double-doubles while freshman Beyaca Martin got a career-high 15 kills for the match. Alison Jacobs added 55 assists.

Defensively, five players recorded at least 10 digs and Whitney Sanders added 13 blocks for the Lions. Jacobs and Katie Haseltine joined Palasak with 10 digs, while Pratt’s 13 and Jessica Hansen’s career-high 38 led the way.

UNA allowed similar numbers against Harding, which had more team digs, 97-89, and less team errors, 36-37. Manuela Nesheva turned in a match-high 26 kills for the Bisons.

After winning the first game against Nova Southeastern 30-22, the Lions could do little on offense or defense against the Sharks. NSU rallied to win three straight and post a 22-30, 30-21, 30-24, 30-19 victory.

The Lions hit just .090 has a team and had 17 service errors in the match.

Palasak’s 21 kills and Hansen’s 23 digs led the way for UNA while Jacobs had 35 assists.
