FLORENCE – Danielle Palasak and Whitney Sanders combined
for 30 kills as the University of North Alabama volleyball team
picked up its first Gulf South Conference victory with a 3-1 win
over Montevallo Friday evening at Flowers Hall.
Palasak, a
senior from Garden City, Mich., recorded her ninth double-double of
the season with 10 digs and a match-high 17 kills. Sanders added 13
kills on the night as the Lions improved to 8-9 on the season and an
even 1-1 in GSC play.
Three players
reached double digits in kills for Montevallo, which fell to 4-15
overall and 1-1 in the conference.
After the two
teams traded 30-15 victories, UNA rolled to a 30-11 win in game
three. The Lions held the visitors to a .077 hitting percentage in
the fourth game to win the match with a 30-19 victory.
Jessica Hansen
was one of four UNA players to reached double digits in digs. The
junior notched 19 on the night while Katie Haseltine added 13 and
setter Allison Jacobs joined Palasak with 10 digs. Jacobs also
posted 37 assists for the Lions.
UNA will be
back in Gulf South Conference action Saturday evening with a road
match at Alabama-Huntsville. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at
Spragins Hall.
