HUNTSVILLE – The University of North Alabama volleyball
team was able to reach the .500 mark on the season Saturday evening
by sweeping in-state rival Alabama-Huntsville 3-0 on the road.
Danielle
Palasak and Whitney Sanders had 16 kills each, while Katie Haseltine
recorded her third career double-double to lead the Lions. With the
victory, UNA improves to 9-9 overall with a 2-1 mark in Gulf South
Conference play. With the loss UAH falls to 6-14, 0-3.
UNA jumped out
to a 19-10 lead in the first game and never looked back. Sanders had
five kills to lead the Lions. In game two, the Lions took their
first lead at 19-18 on a kill by Palasak. The Chargers could never
regain the advantage as UNA went on to win 30-27.
Palasak again
led the way in the third game with six kills as the Lions recorded a
.341 hitting percentage as a team.
Haseltine
rounded out the top hitters for UNA with 10 kills. She also tied
teammate Jessica Hansen for a team-high 11 digs on the night.
The Lions will
hit the road for its next two GSC contests. UNA will play at
Valdosta State on Sept. 28 before facing West Florida the next day.
