ARGONAUTS KEEP SHARE OF EAST DIVISION LEAD
PENSACOLA, Fla., - Isabela
Gualberto recorded 20 kills to lead the University of West Florida
volleyball team to a 3-1 win over North Alabama Saturday evening at
the UWF Field house in Pensacola, Fla.
The 17-30,
32-30, 19-30, 28-30 victory by the Argonauts was the first in school
history over UNA. The Lions entered the match with a 12-0 all-time
series record but are now 10-10 on the year with a 3-2 record in
Gulf South Conference play.
West Florida
maintains its lead in the GSC East Division with a 3-0 conference
record and a 16-2 mark overall.
North Alabama
could do little to slow the Argonaut offense in the first game.
After the Lions
scored first, UWF reeled off eight straight points and never
surrendered the lead. UNA hit just .021 as a team while the home
team recorded a .257 hitting percentage.
West Florida
appeared to be in control of the second game after an attack error
by Whitney Sanders gave the Argos a game point at 29-25. The Lions,
however, responded, with five straight points to go ahead by one.
UWF tied the game at 30-30 on a kill by Kimberly Clark, but at
service error and an attack error gave UNA the 32-30 win.
The Argonauts
dominated the third game before holding on to win a close game four
to take the match. UNA led 15-8 and 21-18 in the final stanza before
a rally by the home team closed out the match.
Sanders led the
Lions with 14 kills, while teammate Danielle Palasak added 11 kills
and 15 digs. Beyaca Martin also had 10 kills for UNA while Jessica
Hansen produced 21 digs. UNA setter Alison Jacobs also turned in 41
assists on the night.
The Lions will
play at Montevallo on Tuesday, Oct. 2, before returning home to face
West Georgia the following Friday.
