TAMPA, Fla., – In a rematch of last season’s national
championship match, top-ranked Tampa extended its winning streak to
20 straight matches with a 3-0 sweep over North Alabama Friday
evening at the Bob Martinez Sports Complex on the UT campus.
Erin Clark
recorded a match-high 17 kills to lead the Spartans to the 30-25,
34-32, 30-23 victory. With the win Tampa improves to 20-1 on the
season while the Lions fall to 16-12.
Whitney Sanders
and Danielle Palasak led UNA with 10 and 11 kills respectively.
Sarah Roberts
rounded out the top hitters for the Lions with eight kills and a
team-high .375 hitting percentage.
In the first
two games, Tampa used late runs to pull out wins. The Spartans took
their first lead in game one at 19-18 and scored 10 of the final 15
points to pick up the five-point victory. UNA had a 14-11 lead in
the second game before UT surged to a game point at 29-25. The Lions
scored four straight to tie the contest and had a game point of
their own at 31-30 but could not close out the game.
The Lions never
led in game three. After a 1-1 tie, Tampa built a 10-point lead at
27-17 and finished off the match with a 30-23 win.
Alison Jacobs
had 32 assists while Jessica Hansen added 13 digs for UNA.
The Lions will
remain in Tampa for two matches on Saturday. UNA will face 13th
ranked Florida Southern at 1:30 p.m. CST and face Rollins College at
6 p.m.
