PALASAK GETS 30 KILLS VERSUS ROLLINS
TAMPA, Fla., – The University of
North Alabama volleyball team split its final two matches Saturday
at the Tampa Classic, knocking off Rollins in four games after
falling to 13th-ranked Florida Southern earlier in the day.
The Lions leave
Tampa with a 1-2 record at the event after losing to the top-ranked
and host Spartans the previous day. UNA is now 17-13 on the season
and will return to Gulf South Conference competition on Oct. 26 to
face East Division-leading West Florida at Flowers Hall.
Against
Rollins, Danielle Palasak’s game-ending kill in the fourth contest
gave her a career-high 30 for the match. The senior from Garden
City, Mich. had a .421 hitting percentage and led four UNA players
that reached double digits in kills.
Whitney Sanders
had 17 kills for the Lions, while Kelly Pratt and Sarah Roberts
added 11 each. Alison Jacobs also recorded 61 assists.
Defensively,
five players had at least 10 digs in the match. Palasak, Jacobs and
Pratt got 11 apiece while Katie Haseltine and Jessica Hansen picked
up 10 each for UNA.
The Lions won
the first two games 30-24, 30-22 and had match point at 30-29 in
game three. The Tars, however, rallied to pull out the 32-30
victory. In the fourth game, UNA trailed most of the match before
scoring five of the final seven points to record the 30-27 victory.
In the early
match, UNA suffered its second loss of the season to the No. 13 Mocs.
Florida Southern hit .355 for the match and picked up the 30-24,
30-24, 30-28 victory. The defeat gave the Lions an 0-6 record on the
year against ranked teams.
Palasak and
Sanders had 10 kills each while Jacobs had 30 assists and Hansen
added 13 digs.
