BIRMINGHAM – After coming back from a 2-1 deficit in its
Saturday-afternoon match against Birmingham-Southern, North Alabama
watched the Panthers put together a rally of their own in the fifth
game to score the 3-2 win at home
After winning
game four to stay alive, UNA had a 14-12 lead in the fifth game.
BSC, however,
held off four match points, scoring six of the final eight points to
take the game and the match with the 27-30, 30-22, 30-26, 18-30,
18-16 win.
Whitney Sanders
and Danielle Palasak had 16 kills each to lead the Lions, who fall
to 19-15 on the year. Freshman Katie Haseltine added 14 kills to
round out UNA’s top hitters on the day. BSC (31-3) was led by Sarah
Harris’ match-high 22 kills.
Jessica Hansen
just missed a school record by recording a career-high 42 digs.
Three Lion
players turned double-doubles on the day, including setter Alison
Jacobs (55 assists, 10 digs), Palasak (16 kills, 18 digs) and
Haseltine (16 kills, 13 digs).
UNA now turns
its attention to the Gulf South Conference tournament on Nov. 9-10
in Searcy, Ark. The Lions, seeded second in the East Division, will
take on the West Division’s third-seeded Arkansas Tech Friday at 5
p.m. at the Rhodes Field House on the campus of Harding University.
