SEARCY, Ark., – Danielle Palasak had 15 kills and 16 digs
to lead the University of North Alabama volleyball team to a 3-0
sweep over Arkansas Tech in the first round of the Gulf South
Conference tournament Friday afternoon in Searcy, Ark.
The senior from
Garden City, Mich., was one of three UNA players to record
double-digit kill totals as the Lions posted a 30-21, 30-22, 30-24
win at Rhodes Field House on the campus of Harding University.
Whitney Sanders and Kelly Pratt added 10 kills each to lead the
Lions.
In each of the
three contests, UNA jumped out to early leads and held off late ATU
rallies. A strong defensive effort paved the way for the Lions,
which held Arkansas Tech to a .101 hitting percentage.
UNA’s 67 digs
was a season-high for a three-game match. Jessica Hansen led the way
with 18, while Palasak and Pratt completed double-double
performances with 16 and 13 digs respectively.
With the win,
the Lions (20-15) advance to play West Georgia Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
The Wolves knocked off the West Division’s top seed and host
Harding.
