VOLLEYBALL TEAM DROPS 3-1 DECISIONS TO TRUMAN, FINDLAY
FINDLAY, OHIO, – The University of
North Alabama volleyball team came up on the short end of a pair of
3-1 matches Friday at the Town Place Suites Classic on the campus of
the University of Findlay. The two losses dropped the Lions’ overall
record to 2-4 after falling to seventh-ranked Truman State and host
Findlay at Croy Gymnasium.
In the first
match against Truman, all four games were decided by five points or
less as the Bulldogs came away with the 3-1 victory. UNA reached 20
points first in three of the four contests, but had trouble closing
out games in the 26-30, 25-30, 34-32, 27-30 loss.
The Lions held
the advantage in kills (75-57), hitting percentage (.210-.207) and
digs (88-87), but could not come up with the big point when it
counted.
Danielle
Palasak had a match-high 22 kills, while teammate Whitney Sanders
tallied 21 in the four games. Freshman Katie Haseltine also reached
double figures in kills with 11. Palasak and Haseltine also turned
in double-doubles on the match with 12 and 18 digs respectively.
Jessica Hansen
led all defenders with 30 digs, while Alison Jacobs recorded 67
assists. Kelly Pratt also just missed a double-double with nine
kills and 14 digs for the Lions.
Statistics were
not on the side of the Lions against the host Oilers. UNA hit just
.185 for the match compared to Findlay’s .321 during the 26-30,
31-29, 19-30, 21-30 loss. Palasak and Haseltine led the way
with a pair of double-double showings.
Palasak notched
a .364 hitting percentage with 25 kills and 12 digs while Haseltine
got 12 kills and 20 digs for the Lions.
Hansen added 15
digs for UNA while Jacobs totaled 46 assists.
The Lions will
place two more matches on Saturday at the event, matching up against
Lake Superior State and No. 10 Hillsdale.
