LIONS DOWN LAKE SUPERIOR STATE, FALL TO NO. 10 HILLSDALE
FINDLAY, OHIO, – The University
of North Alabama volleyball went 1-1 on the final day of Findlay’s
Town Place Suites Classic Saturday, getting a 3-1 victory over Lake
Superior State before falling to 10th-ranked Hillsdale in three
games.
With the split,
the Lions are 3-5 on the season, which includes matches against
three Top-10 teams. UNA lost a pair of matches on Friday and leave
the University of Findlay campus with a 1-3 mark at the event.
Against Lake
Superior State, Whitney Sanders had 27 kills to lead the UNA offense
while Jessica Hansen picked up her second 30-dig showing in three
matches during the 3-1 victory. Danielle Palasak also had a
double-double with 18 kills and 17 digs as the Lions came away with
the 31-29, 30-15, 26-30, 30-21 win.
UNA appeared to
be in control and headed for a sweep after the first two games.
The Lions,
however, posted just a .069 hitting percentage in the third contest
while LSSU hit .216 as a team.
Alison Jacobs
and Carly Lacey split time at setter and each recorded
double-doubles on the match. Jacobs netted 30 assists and 11 digs
while Lacey got 27 assists and 11 digs. Kelly Pratt also had 11
kills for UNA.
The Lions had
trouble slowing down Hillsdale’s offensive attack in the second
match. As a team, the Chargers hit .355 for the match, including a
.562 showing in the first game.
Sanders led the
way for UNA with 19 kills during the 23-30, 21-30, 26-30 defeat.
Palasak added
16 kills while Jacobs notched 39 assists for the Lions.
Hansen finished
the weekend with a 25-dig showing, giving her 100 for the tournament
and a 6.67 digs-per-game average.
The Lions will
travel to Pensacola, Fla., next weekend for four matches at the
Argonaut Regional Crossover. UNA is slated to play Emporia State and
Florida Southern on Sept. 8 before facing Albany State and Saint Leo
the following day.
