LIONS FALL TO 3-7 AFTER LOSSES TO EMPORIA STATE, FLORIDA SOUTHERN
PENSACOLA, Fla., - The
University of North Alabama volleyball fell to 3-7 on the season
after losing a pair of matches at the Argonaut Regional Crossover
Saturday in Pensacola, Fla. The Lions lost a 3-1 decision to Emporia
State before falling to fifth-ranked Florida Southern at the UWF
Fieldhouse.
Against ESU,
the Lions fell behind 0-2 in the match before pulling out a 30-27
win in game three to avoid a sweep. UNA hit just .200 as a team
during the 26-30, 22-30, 30-27, 30-20 defeat, including a .083
showing in game one.
Danielle
Palasak turned in a double-double with 22 kills and 10 digs. Whitney
Sanders added 17 kills and had a .414 hitting percentage for the
Lions. Alison Jacobs notched 54 assists.
Defensively,
Jessica Hansen just missed her third 30-dig performance of the
season after racking up 29 in the four games.
UNA played two
close games against the No. 5 Moccasins before being overwhelmed in
the third contest. Palasak again led all hitters and posted another
double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs during the 25-30, 30-32,
18-30 loss.
The Lions
reached 20 points first in each of the first two contests, but could
not close out the games. In game two, UNA had game point twice,
leading 29-28 and 30-29. Florida Southern, however, scored the games
final three points to secure the win.
Sanders added
11 kills for the Lions while Jacobs had 31 assists. Katie Haseltine
and Hansen led the way in digs with 10 and 22 respectively.
UNA will face
Albany State and Saint Leo on Sunday to finish out its crossover
schedule.
