VOLLEYBALL TEAM PREPARES FOR BIG MATCH AGAINST WEST FLORIDA
BIRMINGHAM – For the fourth time
this season and the fifth time in her career, North Alabama outside
hitter Danielle Palasak has been named the Gulf South Conference
East Division Offensive Player of the Week.
The senior from
Garden City, Mich., totaled 59 kills while leading the Lions to a
pair of wins during the week. She wrapped up the weekend with a
career-high 30 kills on just 57 attempts against Rollins as UNA
captured a 3-1 victory.
No other player
in the East Division has won the offensive award more than once.
However, West
Florida’s Luciana Rapach has won the defensive award twice in the
last three weeks. The East Division-leading Argonauts will visit
Flowers Hall Friday at 7 p.m. for a key GSC match-up.
A win by UWF
(8-0 in league play) would clinch the division title. The
second-place Lions (7-2) could stay within striking distance with a
home victory, but would need help down the stretch the capture the
division. West Florida knocked off UNA 3-1 on Sept. 29 in Pensacola,
Fla. Both teams are ranked in the top 10 of the latest NCAA South
Central Region poll. UNA checks in at No. 7 while the Argos are
ranked third.
The showdown on
Friday is also being featured as the GSC Match of the Week. UNA is
1-0 all-time in match-of-the-week contests, with the Lions sweeping
homestanding Valdosta State on Sept. 28. |
