– North Alabama held West
Georgia to a negative
hitting percentage in three
straight sets, getting a 3-0
sweep over the Wolves to
open Gulf South Conference
play Tuesday evening on the
road. Sarah Roberts had 13
kills as the Lions won their
fourth consecutive match to
improve to 7-8 on the season
with a 1-0 mark in GSC play.
UNA was able to break open a
close game in the opening
set to post a 25-14 win.
With the score tied at 7-7,
the Lions used a balanced
attack to pull away down the
stretch, hitting .519 as a
team while UWG (8-9 overall,
0-1 GSC) managed just a
-.040 team hitting
percentage.
West Georgia had an even
poorer showing in the second
set, hitting a -.133 during
the 25-18 loss. The Lions
only had nine kills as UWG
errors accounted for more
than half of the North
Alabama points. The Wolves
had 11 attack errors, one
reception error and four
service errors in the set.
The Lions were able to close
out the match with a 25-13
victory in the final game.
Roberts had five kills while
the Wolves hit -.031 as a
team.
For the match, Alison Jacobs
had 27 assists for UNA while
Lauren Greenhill produced a
team-high 10 digs on the
night.
UNA will return home next
Friday for another GSC
matchup against instate
rival Alabama-Huntsville.
The Lions will be hosting a
‘Black Out the Chargers’
promotion where fans are
encouraged to come and
support the volleyball team
by wearing all black to the
match. Match time is set for
7 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
