– The University of
North Alabama volleyball
team improved to 2-0 in
Gulf South Conference
play and reached the
.500 mark overall on the
season with a 3-0
victory over
Alabama-Huntsville
Friday evening at
Flowers Hall. More than
500 fans dressed in
black watched UNA record
the 25-19, 25-17, 25-20
sweep during the 2009
‘Black Out the Chargers’
campaign.
Sarah Roberts and Cara
Gregg combined for 21 of
the team’s 43 kills as
the Lions (8-8) extended
their winning streak to
five straight matches.
Roberts had 11 kills and
hit .350 for the match
while Gregg had 10 kills
and added five digs on
the night.
Alison Jacobs added 33
assists while Brigid
O’Brien had 16 digs to
round out the top
performers for UNA.
Jessica Ruple led UAH
(6-13) with 10 kills for
the match.
As a team, the Lions hit
a season-best .283 for
the match while the 533
in attendance was also a
season-high. Jacobs came
within striking distance
of another triple-double
by adding eight kills
and six digs. The senior
from Elkhorn, Neb., also
recorded a .438 hitting
percentage.
North Alabama will step
outside of GSC play next
Tuesday by hosting
Shorter College next
Tuesday. Match time is
set for 6 p.m. at
Flowers Hall. The Lions
will return to
conference play the
following weekend by
hosting Valdosta State
on Friday and West
Florida on Saturday.
