– After dropping the
first set against
Shorter College, the
University of North
Alabama volleyball
team responded by
winning three
straight to earn a
3-1 win over the
NAIA squad Tuesday
evening at Flowers
Hall. Alison Jacobs
recorded her third
triple-double of the
season and Lauren
Greenhill notched a
career-high 21 digs
in the 22-25, 26-24,
25-12, 25-21
victory.
The win is the sixth
straight for the
Lions, who move
above the .500 mark
for the first time
this season. Shorter
falls to 11-6 on the
year.
In the first set,
the Hawks led the
entire way, holding
off a late UNA rally
to get the
three-point victory.
The Lions held an
18-11 lead in the
second set before
holding off a rally
of their own.
Shorter scored five
straight points to
erase a 24-19
deficit and tie the
game before UNA
netted the final two
points, including a
service ace by
Brigid O’Brien on
set point.
North Alabama
dominated the third
set, hitting a
match-high .371 as a
team while the Hawks
recorded a .051 team
hitting percentage.
Sarah Roberts got
six of her
match-high 20 kills
in the final set.
The junior from
Maryville, Tenn.,
finished the match
with a .333 hitting
percentage
and added three
service aces and two
blocks on the night.
After recording
triple-doubles on
Sept. 11 and Sept.
15 this season,
Jacobs hit the
milestone again on
Tuesday with 14
kills, 40 assists
and 10 digs. Cara
Gregg added a
double-double on the
night with 12 kills
and 13 digs while
O’Brien rounded out
the top defensive
players with 13 digs
for the match.
UNA will return to
Gulf South
Conference play this
weekend with home
matches against
Valdosta State and
West Florida. The
Lions will take on
VSU Friday at 7 p.m.
before hosting the
defending GSC
champion Argonauts
the next day at 1
p.m.
