Printable Match Statistics - Florida Southern

TAMPA, Fla., – Cara Gregg and Sarah Roberts combined for 21 kills as the University of North Alabama volleyball team swept Florida Southern Friday evening at the 2009 Tampa Spartans South Region Crossover. The win avenged an early-season five-set loss the Moccasins and improved UNA’s overall record to
13-11 on the season.

The Lions raced out to big leads in each of the three sets. North Alabama led
14-4 in the opening game before the Mocs (10-12) rallied late to take a 22-21 lead. UNA, however, responded by scoring four of the game’s final five points to secure the 25-23 victory.

The second set was never in doubt as the Lions out-hit FSC .478 to -.033 in the
25-7 victory. It was the first time this year the Mocs had been held to single digits in scoring.

Set three closely resembled the first set as UNA raced out to a big lead before holding off a late rally. After leading 14-5 early in the set, the Lions saw their lead shrink to a single point as FSC scored eight straight points to cut the deficit to 14-13. From there, neither team led by more than three until a kill by Ari Smith gave the Lions a 23-19 advantage. The game ended with a pair of Florida Southern errors to make the final score 25-19.

Gregg finished with a match-high 11 kills for UNA. Roberts had 10 kills and added a .250 hitting percentage on the night. Kristin Zull added six kills on 13 attempts with only one error for a .385 percentage. She also had nine digs for the Lions.

Lauren Greenhill led UNA’s defensive effort with 14 digs while Alison Jacobs recorded 26 assists.
North Alabama will remain in Tampa for a pair of matches against ranked teams on Saturday.

The Lions will take on No. 22 Eckerd at 3:30 p.m. (EST) before taking on the No. 9 host Spartans at 8 p.m. (EST). All matches will be played at the Bob Martinez Sports Center on the Tampa University campus.
