Jacobs accounted for 71 assists and 21 kills
to lead the University of North Alabama
volleyball team to a split against a pair of
Top-25 teams Friday at the West Florida
Regional Crossover. After dropping a 3-2
decision to 11th-ranked Florida
Southern earlier in the day, the Lions
responded by sweeping No. 17 Nova
Southeastern at the UWF Fieldhouse.
Against Nova,
Jacobs recorded her first career
triple-double with 14 kills, 28 assists and
10 digs. The senior from Elkhorn, Neb. Also
had a .500 hitting percentage while her kill
total was a match high.
Cara Gregg,
Sarah Roberts and Ari Smith added eight
kills each in the 25-21, 27-25, 25-23
victory. Brigid O’Brien also had 14 digs
while Gregg joined Jacobs with 10 digs for
the match. Taylor Pohlman had 13 kills to
lead the Sharks (7-4).
Against
Florida Southern, the Lions led 1-0 after
the first set and 2-1 after game three
before the Lady Mocs rallied for the 3-2
victory. It was the fourth consecutive
five-set match for UNA, who came up on the
short end of the 25-18, 22-25, 25-23, 19-25,
9-15 decision.
With only a
.192 team hitting percentage, the Lions
relied on Florida Southern errors throughout
much of the match. The Lady Mocs hit .265 as
a team despite committing 16 service errors,
19 attack errors and 11 reception errors.
Although the 11 aces was a season-high for
UNA, the Lions committed 12 service errors
of their own and allowed eight Florida
Southern aces.
Roberts led
UNA with 16 kills. Gregg added 13 for the
Lions while Jacobs turned in 43 assists.
Defensively, O’Brien had 24 digs while
Lauren Greenhill and Shae Watkins rounded
out the category with 15 and 13 digs
respectively.
Florida
Southern (7-2) had four players reach double
digits in kills, led by Julia Borecka’s 18.
North Alabama
(3-7) will close out play at the crossover
Saturday with another regional match against
Saint Leo. First serve is set for 10:30 a.m.
