FLORENCE – A pair of standouts on the University of North Alabama volleyball team have been honored as two of the top players in the South Region. Setter Alison Jacobs and middle blocker Sarah Roberts each received All-South Region honors by Daktronics and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

The Daktronics awards came first. Jacobs, the 2009 Gulf South Conference East Division Player of the Year, earned first-team honors for the award that was voted on by sports information directors from the GSC, Sunshine State Conference and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

The senior from Elkhorn, Neb., recorded 1,215 assists for a 9.59 per-set average last season. She added 253 kills (1.99 per set), 266 digs (2.09 per set), 44 total blocks (.35 per set) and 26 service aces. She was named GSC East Player of the Week twice and recorded three triple-doubles this season, with two against ranked opponents.

Following the Daktronics announcement, Jacobs received first-team honors by the AVCA, which was voted on by head coaches throughout the South Region. She is now eligible for All-America honors by both organizations.

After also receiving first team All-GSC honors, Roberts added a second team all-regional selection by Daktronics and a first-team nod by the AVCA to wrap up her junior season.

For the year, Roberts had 462 kills, averaging 3.64 per-set to lead the GSC East Division. The Maryville, Tenn., native was third in the East in hitting percentage with a .283 showing. She was a three-time GSC Offensive Player of the Week honoree and reached double digits in kills in 29 matches. She also led the team with 37 service aces on the year.
