FLORENCE
– Officials with the Gulf South Conference
have named North Alabama’s Brigid O’Brien
the GSC East Division Defensive Player of
the Week. After taking over duties as the
team’s libero this season, she has averaged
4.33 digs per set, including a 5.05 average
last week as the Lions faced four NCAA
tournament teams from a year ago.
O’Brien posted 96 digs in four matches at
the UNA Classic. The sophomore from Orland
Park, Ill., had at least
15 digs in every contest, breaking the
20-dig plateau twice. During a 3-2 over No.
13 Truman State, she posted a career-high 35
digs, the second-highest total in the GSC
this season.
The defensive award for O’Brien is the first
of her career.
