Flowers Hall has served as the home of the
University of North Alabama volleyball team since it opened its
doors in 1972, and has been an important part of the Lions success
story. The 3,800 seat facility has hosted numerous state and Gulf
South Conference tournaments over the years , and was the scene for
the first-ever GSC volleyball tournament in 1982 in which UNA
captured the league's first women's sports championship.
In 1996, Flowers Hall was the site for the
first-ever NCAA women's volleyball tournament played in the state of
Alabama as UNA hosted the NCAA Division II South Central Regional.
UNA has hosted the event a total of four times, winning it at home
in 1998 and 2000 before coming up short in 2005.
Flowers Hall has also hosted three NBA
basketball games in the 1970s and has hosted numerous NCAA
tournament events in both men's and women's basketball. UNA went
14-1 at home last season and has a current 11-match winning streak
in Flowers Hall. The Lions have also won 109 straight against Gulf
South Conference schools at home and have gone 157-13 at home since
1995.
