UNA VOLLEYBALL TEAM RANKED SIXTH IN SOUTH
REGION
FLORENCE
– The University of North Alabama volleyball
team is ranked in the South Region poll for
the first time this season. The Lions enter
the second poll at sixth, putting the team
in good position to reach the 2009 NCAA
Tournament.
The Lions are 16-13 overall with a 12-7
showing in regional play. North Alabama has
not made the NCAA Tournament since 2006 and
was not ranked in the first regional poll
released on Oct. 15. UNA made the jump into
the rankings with a strong showing at the
Tampa Spartans Regional Crossover, where the
team went 2-1. The following week, the Lions
knocked off the region’s third-ranked West
Florida 3-2 on the Argonauts home floor.
Eight teams from each region advance to the
post-season. Conference champions from the
Gulf South, Sunshine State and Southern
Intercollegiate Athletic Association
received automatic berths with the next five
highest-ranked teams also earning bids.
The next regional poll will be release on
Nov. 12.
