UNA VOLLEYBALL RELEASES 2008 SCHEDULE
FLORENCE – University of North
Alabama head volleyball coach Stephanie Radecki has released the
team’s 2008 schedule, featuring 13 home matches for the year.
The Lions will
play 32 regular-season matches against teams from seven different
conferences. The 2008 slate also features 10 matches against teams
that advanced to NCAA post-season play a year ago.
“We are
extremely excited about a very challenging schedule next season,”
said Radecki. “We will play a lot of strong teams on the road, as
well as at home. We are looking forward to hosting some very
talented teams at Flowers Hall.”
The Lions will
open the season in Rolla, Mo., by playing in the ‘Middle of
Everywhere Classic’ on the campus of Missouri Science and
Technology. After playing four matches in two days, UNA will return
to Flowers Hall for its home opener on Sept. 1 against Division III
powerhouse Emory.
The following
weekend, the Lions will host a two-day tri-match featuring Henderson
State and the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras.
A trip to
Lakeland, Fla., on Sept. 12-13 for the Florida Southern South Region
Crossover will pit UNA against four straight teams that advanced to
the 2007 NCAA Tournament. The Lions will open play against Lynn
before facing the host Mocs on Friday before facing Eckerd and
Clarion the next day.
Following the
trip to Florida, UNA will open Gulf South Conference play with a
home match against defending champion West Georgia on Sept. 16.
The Lions will
take a break from conference play to host the UNA Regional Crossover
Oct. 17-18. Sunshine State Conference powers Tampa and Florida
Southern will come to town for the event, which will conclude with a
match against Birmingham-Southern.
The GSC
tournament is slated for Nov. 14-15 at the campus of the East
Division champion. The NCAA South Region Tournament is scheduled for
the following weekend. |
