PENSACOLA, Fla., –
Southern Arkansas used a second-half offensive surge to break open a
close game and coast to a 67-52 victory over the University of North
Alabama women’s basketball team Saturday afternoon at the UWF Surf
Burger Holiday Classic.
SAU led 28-25 at the break before opening the second half with a
12-4 run. The Lions hit just 1-of-9 three-pointers in the second
half and never got the lead under double digits from that point.
Amber Rutherford scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead
UNA. Three players reached double figures for SAU, including Kim
Davis’ game-high 23 points. The loss drops UNA’s record to 6-8,
while Southern Arkansas improves to 3-8 on the year.
North Alabama will return home to face Ouachita Baptist on Jan. 3.
Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at Flowers Hall. The Lions will open Gulf
South Conference play the following Saturday, Jan. 6, with a road
game at Montevallo.
