FLORENCE –
Shay Ashford hit a three-point
shot with 1.7 seconds remaining to give the University of North
Alabama women’s basketball team an 80-77 victory over Ouachita
Baptist Wednesday afternoon at Flowers Hall. The winning shot capped
a game-high 23-point effort for the junior from Tupelo, Miss., who
went 7-of-11 from beyond the arc.
UNA led by as many as 15 points in the game, including a 47-32 lead
at the half. The Lady Tigers, however, chipped away over the final

The Lions responded with a three-pointer by Ashford on the next
possession, and the two teams battled to a 77-77 tie in the final 56
seconds. Each team had chances to score in the closing minute, but
couldn’t until Ashford’s three gave UNA the win.

to 8-4.
