LIVINGSTON – A 12-point
half-time deficit proved to be too much for the University of North
Alabama women’s basketball team to overcome as the Lions dropped a
75-65 road decision to West Alabama Monday evening in Gulf South
Conference play.
UNA trailed 39-27 at the half, and managed to outscore the Lady
Tigers 38-36 over the final 20 minutes. Four UNA players reached
double figures in scoring, including Amber Rutherford’s game-high 16
points.
West Alabama, however, countered with five players in double digits
and hit nine three-point baskets as a team. The Lady Tigers also
held a 45-33 advantage in rebounding.
Jameica York and Chelsey Malone added to the Lions’ scoring with 12
and 11 points respectively. Tandra Inmon rounded out the top scorers
for UNA with 10 points on the night.
The loss drops the Lions’ overall record to 7-10 on the season with
an 0-2 mark in GSC play. UWA improves to 12-3, 2-0. UNA will return
home to host Valdosta State Saturday, Jan. 13, in another key GSC
match-up. Tip-off time is set for 1 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
