FLORENCE -- The North
Alabama women's basketball team snapped a six-game losing streak to
Valdosta State and handed first-year head coach Terry Fowler his
first Gulf South Conference victory with a hard-fought 55-52 win
over the Lady Blazers.
The game was tied at 52-52 with 45
seconds left when Tandra Inmon drove in for a go- ahead basket. VSU
then missed two free throws and UNA added a free throw from Jameica
York for a three-point advantage. Valdosta State's Carley Peterson
missed on a three-point attempt at the buzzer and UNA had the
victory.
The Lions are now 8-10 overall and
1-2 in league play. The Lady Blazers are 11-5 and 1-1.
Inmon led UNA with 15 points and
Amber Rutherford added 13. In a game highlighted by tough
defensive play, Valdosta State held a 19-18 advantage at halftime.
VSU extended its lead to 10 in the second half before UNA rallied.
There were a combined 38 turnovers in the game and VSU outrebounded
UNA 37-31.
York led UNA with 10 rebounds.
The Lions host West Florida Monday night at 6 p.m. at Flowers Hall.
