FLORENCE – Amber Rutherford scored 29 points to lead
North Alabama to a 71-64 home win over West Florida Monday evening
in Gulf South Conference women’s basketball action.
The Lions used a late run to pull away in a close game and improve
to 9-10 overall, and even their conference record at 2-2 on the
year. UWF took a 59-57 lead with 4:40 remaining before UNA closed
the game on a
14-5 run.
Free throw shooting was an important factor for UNA, which hit
19-of-21 charity shots on the night. The Lions also hit eight
straight foul shots down the stretch to protect their lead and
secure the win.
Rutherford hit 10-of-17 from the floor and went nine-for-nine from
the foul line on the night. Tandra Inmon also reached double figures
in scoring with 18 points for UNA.
The Lions will hit the road for its next GSC showdown. UNA will
travel to Carrollton, Ga., to face West Georgia Saturday at 4:30
p.m.
