Fowler Era Begins on a High Note
FLORENCE --
The University of North Alabama women's basketball team gave new
head coach Terry Fowler a victory in his first game at the school
with a 92-64 rout of Lane College at Flowers Hall.
UNA made eight three-pointers in the first half to build a 55-29
lead at intermission and managed to hold off a Lane threat early in
the second half to preserve the win.
The Lions scored the most points by a UNA women's team since 1998-
99, with five players in double figures.
Amber Rutherford led the Lions with 18 while Jameica York added 16,
Shay Ashford 13 and Chelsey Malone and Tandra Inmon 10 each.
Kim Jones Carter led Lane with 17 and Latasha Watt had 14.
UNA made 10 of 26 three-point attempts in the game and was a solid
24- of 31 from the free throw line. Lane shot just 32 percent from
the floor and made 29 turnovers.
The Lions held a 46-38 rebounding edge, led by Inmon with seven and
Rutherford and York with six each.
