VALDOSTA, Ga., - Valdosta
State’s Carley Peterson grabbed an offensive rebound with three
seconds remaining and put it back in for the winning basket as the
Blazers edged North Alabama 53-52 Monday evening in Gulf South
Conference women’s basketball action.
After calling a timeout, UNA was unable to get off a shot in the
final three seconds, allowing the GSC East-leading Blazers to escape
with the one-point home win. The loss drops the Lions’ overall
record to 11-12 with a 4-4 mark in GSC play. VSU improves to 17-5,
7-1.
UNA, which led 24-21 at the half, had two players reach double
digits in scoring. Amber Rutherford recorded a game-high 14 points
and grabbed seven rebounds. Tandra Inmon added 12 points on the
night.
The Lions will return home on Feb. 10 in another key GSC showdown.
UNA will face West Georgia Saturday, with tip-off scheduled for 1
p.m. at Flowers Hall.
